As the start of the school year is quickly approaching, many of our yogi families are keeping busy, trying to fit in all the last minute summertime activities. So we came up with some ways to include yoga into your late summer fun.

Boating: Pretend to be a sailboat by practicing Triangle Pose. Begin in a wide-legged stance with arms out with and turn the toes on the right foot to the side. Your gaze should be over the right fingers. Reach the right arm as if you are trying to grab something far to the right. When you can reach no further, drop the right hand down to rest on the right shin, bend at the waist, and reach the left arm high. Your body is making the shape of a triangle and you look like a sailboat!

Beach Trip: Pretend to be a surfboard by practicing Plank Pose. Begin in table top, on your hands and knees with the shoulders above the wrists and the hips above the knees. Step both feet back so that your body is at the top of a push up. You will be on hands and bent toes. Your body should be a straight line from heels to crown of the head. Flat like a surfboard!

Ice Cream: When you’re family goes to the local ice cream spot, practice your cooling breath- curl your tongue like you are making a straw with the tip of your tongue. Breathe in through your curled tongue, close your mouth and blow the air out of your nose. Repeat a few times to get the hang of it. Then sit comfortably and practice this cooling breath for a few minutes. Notice how it cools your body.

Enjoy the final weeks of summer!

Namaste,

Christine & Alex
